Speakers in Islamabad

Buying speakers second-hand

Speakers need to be heard, at volume, on both channels. Distortion, buzzing or a rattle that only appears when pushed is the sign of a damaged driver or a loose enclosure, and neither is audible at conversational volume. Play something with real bass content and listen to each channel separately.

Check the surrounds — the flexible ring around each driver cone. On older speakers these perish and crack, which kills the bass response and is a repair job. Also confirm every cable, the power brick and any remote are included, because these are frequently model-specific and awkward to replace.

What to check before you pay

  • Listen to each channel separately, at volume, with bass-heavy material.
  • Inspect the driver surrounds for cracking or perishing.
  • Confirm the power supply, speaker cables and remote are all included.
  • Test every input the unit offers, not just the one it is connected by.
