Compare against current asks on the same model rather than launch MSRP, and treat any price far below the rest of the market as a question to ask, not a bargain to grab.

What to check before you pay

• Run a sustained load for at least 20 minutes and watch for clock throttling, not just peak score.
• Check every fan spins freely and quietly by hand — seized bearings are the most common failure.
• Look at the PCIe connector and screws for the scratches that mean it has been in and out repeatedly.
• Ask for a photo of the card under load with temperatures on screen.
